What Is Gujarati Rotla?
Rotla is basically the Gujarati version of roti. Traditionally, rotla is made using bajra, but this is made using rice, which gives it a unique flavour and a nice crunch in every bite. It’s a great way to make use of your leftover rice and turn it into something delectable. It’s also quite wholesome and can be enjoyed for breakfast or lunch.
What Is The Difference Between Roti And Rotla?
You must be wondering, what is so unique about rotla? Isn’t it just like regular roti? Well, the answer is no. Rotla is slightly thicker in texture as compared to regular roti (more like a thin paratha). Since its dough is dense, it doesn’t rise like roti.
Gujarati Rotla Recipe: How To Make Gujarati Rotla With Leftover Rice
In this recipe, we use leftover rice. Add them to a bowl along with atta, chopped onions, green chillies, coriander leaves, curd, red chilli powder, chaat masala, garam masala, and salt. Mix well. Shape the mixture into a dough as you normally would. If you feel the rice grains are too long, you can even mash them a little before you mix them with the rest of the ingredients. But we suggest you use them as they are for a crunchier bite. Now, take a small portion of the dough and roll it out evenly using a rolling pin. Heat a tawa set on a low-medium flame. Apply some oil over it and place the prepared rotla on it. Cook until golden brown and crispy. Flip and cook the other side, and your rice rotla is ready to be relished. Top it with makhan and serve with curd or achaar.
