The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Delhi on Monday extended the custody of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused, for 12 days.

Tahawwur Rana In NIA Custody

Tahawwur Rana was produced before a special NIA court earlier before judge Chander Jit Singh, according to NIA. As per the news agency ANI, the legal team of the probe agency was present in the courtroom.

Previously, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch officials had quizzed Tahawwur Rana at the NIA office in Delhi. ANI reported that, according to the Mumbai Police officials, the accused was questioned for eight hours, but he did not cooperate and provided evasive answers.

Earlier, the Patiala House Court of Delhi had also dismissed a plea filed by Tahawwur Rana, seeking permission to speak with his family over call. His legal counsel, Piyush Sachdeva, argued that as a foreign national, he has the fundamental right to communicate with his family, but NIA countered the argument, citing that the ongoing investigation and expressing concerns that the 26/11 attacks accused might reveal sensitive information.

26/11 Accused’s Extradition To India

Tahawwur Rana is a Pakistani-Canadian and has been accused of terrorism and was extradited from the United States to India earlier in April. He is currently facing multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), including conspiracy, terrorism, forgery, and waging war, among others.
