Elon Musk acknowledged that major improvements are needed at social media platform X following a widespread outage that disrupted service for thousands of users in the US on Saturday.

“As evidenced by the X uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter), where he also noted he’s back to working “24/7” across his companies — including X, xAI, Tesla, and SpaceX — to oversee critical tech rollouts.

The platform began to recover Saturday evening, with outage reports on Downdetector dropping from over 10,000 at their peak to around 1,000 by 7:42 p.m. ET. Downdetector tracks outages using user-submitted reports, which may not reflect the full scope of disruptions.

X did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. A similar outage in March was blamed on a cyberattack, according to Musk.

The billionaire, who spent nearly $300 million backing Donald Trump’s re-election campaign and other Republican causes last year, has been more publicly hands-on with X in recent weeks as performance issues continue to draw scrutiny.
