Elon Musk stood alongside President Donald Trump in the Oval Office Thursday as the pair appeared together for what is expected to be Musk’s final day in the Trump administration.

During the press event, Trump praised Musk’s dedication, stating, “Elon Musk has worked tirelessly.” The moment came just a day after Musk confirmed that his role in the administration had come to an end.

Trump began his remarks by thanking Elon Musk for what he called “the most sweeping and consequential government reform program in generations.”

“Today, it’s about a man named Elon, and he’s one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced,” Trump told reporters. “He stepped forward to put his very great talents into the service of our nation, and we appreciate it.”

Following his comments, Trump played a video clip featuring CNBC’s Joe Kernen and Rick Santelli offering praise for the administration’s policies.

Musk had been serving as the head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, where he led aggressive efforts to reduce federal spending and streamline the bureaucracy.

Under his direction, the department enacted sweeping cuts to the federal workforce, a key part of Trump’s promise to shrink the size of government.

Trump announced Musk’s exit Wednesday night in a post on Truth Social, writing simply that Friday would be his “last day.”
