A plane carrying 20 people crashed in Coffee County, Tennessee, on Sunday afternoon, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Emergency responders rushed to the scene. Several people, who suffered serious injury were airlifted to nearby hospitals, officials said.

The crash took place near Old Shelbyville Road, close to the Beechcraft Heritage Museum in Tullahoma, around 12:45 PM (local time). The Tennessee Highway Patrol shared the first update on social media, writing, “Initial reports suggest 16–20 people were on board. Some have been airlifted to nearby hospitals. This is an active scene. Local officials will update.”

Later, the FAA confirmed that 20 individuals were aboard the aircraft. The agency also identified the plane as a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, which had taken off from the nearby Tullahoma Regional Airport shortly before the crash.

This is a developing story.
